The Eyes of the Dragon Quote 8 Page 226

"He pulled even harder, the rope still held, and he felt more hope come stealing into his heart..." Peter has been working on this rope from the napkins he has asked for and is diligent on creating this tool. The napkins now symbolize to me his mother, and the rope being the relationship of he and his mother. Yes the napkins are only there when he eats at certain times of the day and when he is trying to construct his getaway but they always remain close to his heart. When Peter pulled on this rope and found that no matter how small, or how hard the tug was it still held together his heart became overjoyed to know that all was falling into place. This instance is the same for his mother. Even though his mother had been pulled away from him, just as he was tugging on the rope, their bond, their relationship and love for each other stayed strong and his mother became that hope in his heart. This rope of napkins simply created a closeness for the two that had once been tampered with and now has rekindled.
